| Description | The Doctor of Human Resource Management is considered a professional research degree that would give graduates advanced professional standing within their corporate community. The course requires the candidate to undertake 24 credit points of coursework focusing on the concepts of human resource management. The candidate will also be required to complete an applied research-based thesis to the value of 48 credit points. The thesis must make a distinctive contribution to the profession and provide evidence of scholarship and originality. The DHRM is a three-year professional research degree which consists of coursework, seminars and applied research. The first year involves an advanced business research seminar and a coursework component. In the second year students submit a research proposal and literature review and conduct field research. The third year of the course requires students to undertake a DHRM thesis to completion. |
| Employment Prospects | The DHRM has been designed for those candidates who are already actively employed within the corporate management of human resources. The candidate's graduate outcomes will be measured by their improved standing through professional recognition which in turn will directly reflect towards senior employment advancement. These candidates will most likely already be employed in middle to senior HR positions in public or commercial practices. |
| Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings | Applicants should hold a Master of Human Resource Management degree or equivalent with a GPA of 3.5 or above. Subject to the provisions of the Professional Doctorate Regulations, admission to the course is at the discretion of the MBS Research Committee who will determine the availability of a suitable supervisor, assess the potential candidate's written proposal (see guidelines) and the candidate's potential as a researcher. Candidates who do not meet these requirements may be offered a place pending completion of additional preliminary studies for admission to the doctoral course. The specific studies to be completed will be determined in each case by the School's Research Committee. English competence. |

The Doctor of Human Resource Management Thesis will be an applied systematic examination of an HRM business problem. A principal supervisor will be appointed for each candidate from the academic staff of the University (normally in the Murdoch Business School); up to two additional supervisors may be appointed. In total there will be at least 48 points of Doctor of Human Resource Management Thesis.
Specified Electives - 12 credit points
In consultation with their supervisor, students select units so as to develop knowledge in the appropriate substantive area of their research topic and to strengthen research methodology knowledge and skills in preparation for undertaking the thesis project.
Suitable MBS units can be found in the MHRM degree.
