Description Addresses the challenges of assessing, designing, introducing and maintaining small scale renewable energy technologies in developing countries, particularly in rural areas. It is here that the big increases in global population and energy demand are predicted to occur over the coming two decades. Views the problem in a holistic, rather than a purely technical way. Adopts a broad description of what constitutes renewable energy technology since most energy in developing countries rural areas is currently derived from traditional renewable sources.
Contact time Lectures/tutorials: 3 hours per week; occasional practical sessions (Internal students only).
Prerequisites Nil. Recommended: PEC292/PEC492/PEC592 Energy in Society.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Notes Postgraduate Certificate in Energy Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Studies and Master of Science in Renewable Energy students should enrol in the higher-level code for this unit.
