Description A study of the efficient use of energy in buildings, factories and transport systems; techniques for measuring and monitoring energy use; approaches to optimising the performance of electrical appliances and systems; design principles to minimise energy use in buildings and devices and an assessment of the relative costs of energy conservation and energy production in various applications. The unit will include an energy audit and a project report on the results and conclusions.
Contact time Lectures/tutorials: 3 hours per week (internal students only).
Prerequisites Knowledge of physics equivalent to PEC120 General Physics OR a final scaled score of 60% or more in Physics 2A/2B or PEC152 Principles of Physics. Recommended: PEC292 Energy in Society.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Exclusions Students who have previously completed PEC291 Energy Management may not enrol in this unit.
Notes Postgraduate Certificate in Energy Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Studies and Master of Science in Renewable Energy students should enrol in the higher-level code for this unit.

Knowledge of physics equivalent to PEC120 Introduction to Physics/General Physics OR PEC152 Principles of Physics, OR successful completion of PEC590 Energy Systems, PEC592 Energy in Society, or PEC670 Energy Efficient Buildings. Recommended: PEC492/PEC592 Energy in Society.
