Description This unit presents a study of the scientific theory of global warming, the natural and enhanced greenhouse effect, causes of global warming, climate modelling and experimental evidence relevant to testing these models. It covers the consequences of global warming, climate change scenarios, greenhouse gas abatement strategies and social and technological approaches to mitigation and adaptation. Greenhouse policies, national and international frameworks, legal aspects, economic and fiscal measures will be examined.
Contact time Internal: lectures: 2 per week; tutorials: 1 per week.
External: available online.
Prerequisites Nil. Recommended: PEC292 Energy in Society; knowledge of Physics equivalent to PEC120 Introduction to Physics.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Exclusions Students who have previously completed PEC322 Greenhouse Science and Policy are not permitted to enrol in this unit.
Notes Postgraduate Certificate in Energy Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Studies and Master of Science in Renewable Energy students should enrol in the higher-level version of this unit (PEC632).
