Description Covers the economic theory relevant to the energy sector, including discounted cash flow analysis, levelised cost, benefit-cost analysis and the internalising of externalities. Another major topic will be price determination and risk management. Attention is given to open access to energy facilities, the taxation of the energy sector, and the role of public utilities and government industry regulators. The unit emphasises that the role of the market should always be considered within the broader ecological and social context.
Contact time Lectures/tutorials: 2 hours per week.
Prerequisites Nil.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Notes Postgraduate Certificate in Energy Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Studies and Master of Science in Renewable Energy students should enrol in the higher-level code for this unit.
