| Description | This unit places Australian Aboriginal people within a recent historical perspective with a view to understanding their position in Australian society today. After an overview of pre-invasion Indigenous contact with the outside world and early contact with Europeans, the unit concentrates on the consequences for Aboriginal peoples of European settlement. It will cover such issues as: Aboriginal responses to the newcomers; European attitudes towards the 'natives'; and shifts in government policies. |
