Description This unit aims to assist students in acquiring knowledge and skills which will facilitate primary school children's active learning of mathematics. It focuses on understanding and knowing the mathematics that children need to learn, how they learn that mathematics and how best to teach it. The content will address key elements of the primary school curriculum: number and algebra; measurement and geometry; statistics and probability.
Contact time Lectures: 1 hour per week; workshops: 3 hours per week
Prerequisites Enrolment in a Teacher Education course [BEd (Primary), BEd (Primary) (Graduate), BEd (Early Childhood and Primary), BEd (Primary)/BA (AIS)], or BEd (Primary, 1-10 Health and Physical Education), and successful completion of EDU101/EDU1011 Introduction to Teaching or EDN112/EDN1121 Understanding Teachers' Work.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Notes Five days of distributed school placement during semester one. The five days can comprise of 0.5 and whole school days.

Notes Students enrolled in the GradDipEd (Primary) are recommended to enrol in EDN2151 Professional Experience: Primary in the same semester. This unit has a school based component.
