Description This unit aims to acquaint students with the basic principles of real property law. Topics: the concept of property; the concept of possession; fragmentation of proprietary interests; leases; concurrent interests; creation, acquisition, enforceability and transfer of proprietary interests; priorities, the general law of conveyance and the Torrens system; mortgages, easements; profits and restrictive covenants.
Contact time Lectures: 4 hours per week; tutorials: up to 5 tutorials.
Prerequisites Enrolment in Bachelor of Common Law OR L150/LEG150/LAW150 Australian Legal System, L152/LAW152 Torts, L260/LAW260 Contract, and (L120/LEG120/LAW120 Research and Writing or concurrent enrolment in LAW120 Research and Writing).
Notes Students may take this unit either in first or second semester. In the first semester, lectures are offered in 2x2 hours blocks per week, during working hours. In the second semester, lectures are offered in 4-hours blocks per week, after hours.
