Maternal and Newborn Health -- Clinical Placement (NUR332)

Availability Peel: W-placement
Description Students will demonstrate learned knowledge, essential nursing skills and competencies within a maternity setting. Students will be allocated to a clinical placement under the supervision of a preceptor and clinical nurse educator and will utilise an objective student professional performance tool based on ANMC competencies.
Contact time Clinical Practicum: 8 hours per day for 10 days (80 hours) within the allocated placement period.
Prerequisites NUR302 Maternal and Newborn Health and NUR223 Medical and Surgical Nursing 1 - Clinical Practice. Students who have not completed NUR302 in the previous semester must undertake revision of the necessary clinical skills in consultation with the Unit Coordinator before undertaking this unit. Students should note that NUR223 has a prerequisite of completion of Part I Nursing units and NUR201 Fundamentals of Pathophysiology and Pharmacology I and NUR203 Medical and Surgical Nursing 1. NUR302 also requires completion of Part I Nursing units.
Assessment A result of Ungraded Pass or Fail is awarded for this unit.

Students who have not completed NUR302 in the previous semester must undertake revision of the necessary clinical skills in consultation with the Unit Coordinator before undertaking this unit. Students should note that NUR223 has a prerequisite of completion of Part I Nursing units and NUR201 Fundamentals of Pathophysiology and Pharmacology I and NUR203 Medical and Surgical Nursing 1. NUR302 also requires completion of Part I Nursing units.
Notes Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing prior to 2010, should enrol in NUR332 Maternal and Newborn Health-Clinical Placement as well as NUR333 Children and Adolescent Health - Clinical Placement.
