Description This unit examines approaches to reducing energy consumption in residential and commercial buildings resulting from the design and use of the building and its energy services. The unit covers the principles of energy efficient building design as well as use and interpretation of energy and sustainability audits. Identification of options for reducing energy use through renovation and retrofitting as well as occupant behaviour are also covered.
Contact time Lectures: 2 hours per week; tutorials: 1 hour per week.
Prerequisites Knowledge of physics equivalent to PEC120 General Physics OR a final scaled score of 60% or more in Physics 2A/2B or PEC152 Principles of Physics. Recommended: PEC292 Energy in Society.

Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Prerequisites Enrolment in the Postgraduate Certificate in Energy Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Energy and the Environment, Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Studies, Master of Science in Renewable Energy or Master of Science in Environmental Architecture. Knowledge of physics equivalent to PEC120 General Physics OR PEC152 Principles of Physics OR successful completion of PEC592 Energy in Society, PEC594 Energy Management or PEC590 Energy Systems. Recommended: PEC592 Energy in Society.

Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
