Description This unit is designed to develop students' understanding of a range of research techniques used in the social sciences, from action research to surveys, and of relevant philosophical and ethical considerations. Students obtain first-hand experience with some of the methods. Lectures and workshops equip students to understand and critique social research. Examples of research from sociology, psychology, education, community development, tourism and other social sciences are used to illustrate research strategies.
Contact time Lectures/workshops: 3 hours per week.
Prerequisites No knowledge of statistics is required.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
